Les sombres
“No one colour is put under the spotlight in The Sombres with the probable exception of a few differences in hue, but these are diffused and almost drowned in an elliptic movement. Monique Frydman collectively christens her latest canvases Les Sombres and, as with the preceding dames de nage, this follow-up forms a definite corpus of work. The same “stratagem” finds itself renewed, with colour used as a random feature of relief: the recording of a scattering of ropes on the other side of the support, the artist using loose canvas as an interface.”
